This day will cover a number of topics in paediatric respiratory medicine and ENT relevant to the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child health (RCPCH) curriculum.
This study day will cover a wealth of information relating to paediatric respiratory medicine and ENT, including; the differential diagnoses and management of common acute presentations, such as wheeze, stridor, ENT emergencies and tachypnoea in the newborn, updates on recent advances in chronic lung diseases management, and practical guidance on initiating non-invasive ventilation and care of children with tracheostomies. and career guidance.
Delegates will be provided with an update on the diagnosis and management of common respiratory and ENT presentations in children. And raise awareness of the wide and varied opportunities for a career in paediatric respiratory medicine, either as a tertiary specialist or general paediatrician with a special interest, and understand potential routes to achieve this.

The causes of tachypnoea in a newborn infant, and how to initiate appropriate investigations and management
The role of sleep studies and the principles of managing sleep disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnoea
Initiate non-invasive ventilation in a DGH setting when indicated
Awareness of specific issues relating to tracheostomies including different tube types, strategies to minimise risks, and appropriate management.
Assess and formulate differential diagnoses for children presenting with stridor and understand the management of common ENT emergencies
Current best practice in the diagnosis and management of cystic fibrosis and recent advances in treatment.
The principles of treatment with high flow nasal cannula oxygen in conditions such as bronchiolitis and respiratory distress syndrome in neonates.
