This in-depth three-day course enables surgical trainees who have completed basic surgical training to expand their skillset and learn more advanced surgical techniques.You will take part in an extensive range of structured practical sessions which focus on the essential skills needed in emergency circumstances. Upon completion, you will be able to demonstrate sound practice in bowel anastomosis using a variety of techniques. You will also cover other vascular and abdominal emergency procedures using open and laparoscopic techniques.This course is mapped to the ISCP syllabus for General Surgery ST3/ST4 intermediate stage.After attending this course, you should be able to:Demonstrate sound practice in bowel anastomosis in a variety of techniquesCarry out a difficult access sutured anastomosis, to include anterior and submucosalForm a variety of viable stomas, taking into consideration incision and possible complicationsCarry out side-to-side and transverse stapling anastomosisCarry out emergency arterial closure and vein patchingCarry out a hand-sewn end-to-end anastomosisDiscuss the use of energy sources and demonstrate their safe useCarry out a laparoscopic appendectomy with due regard to surrounding tissuePractice the repair of a femoral hernia on porcine model
