Description

This meeting provides a unique multidisciplinary opportunity to focus on the relationship between the human circadian system, physiological processes and nutrition as well as the impact of their integrative roles in the development of metabolic disorders.

Understanding these interactions is particularly important as evidence suggests that sleep irregularity and shift work contributes to the development of obesity and related metabolic disorders as a result of an imbalance of the timing of food intake and energy expenditure with circadian rhythms.

Strategies and dietary guidelines for coping with health and performance problems associated with sleep deprivation and shift work will be addressed.

You will hear presentations from UK and international experts in neuroscience, physiology, sleep medicine, nutrition, cardiovascular medicine and epidemiology, occupational and public health. Both morning and afternoon sessions will be followed by interactive Panel discussion with delegates.

topics covered
Circadian rhythms and the impacts of disruption on health
The impact of mealtimes on circadian rhythms
How sleep and circadian rhythm can affect weight management
How energy intake can affect circadian rhythms
The chemical mechanisms of sleep disorders
The cardiometabolic consequences of sleep disruption
This joint meeting between the Food & Health Forum and the Sleep Medicine Section of the Royal Society of Medicine is also in association with the Occupational Medicine Section and The Physiological Society.
