The LSP study days are organised by the Royal Society of Medicine and the London Specialty School of Paediatrics. The study days are aimed at ST4/5, although paediatricians at all levels of training and career find them of interest.
This meeting will cover a wide variety of allergy topics that a general paediatrician may encounter in their clinical practice. The topics include basic knowledge of allergy and hypersensitivity reactions, food and drug allergy, anaphylaxis and prevention of allergic disease.
Workshops will take place which will demonstrate skin prick test technique, correct use of inhaler devices, application of eczema emollients and creams, nasal spray and adrenaline auto injector use, and management plan formulation.
This study day will explore the importance of common allergic conditions and the significance of taking into consideration the increasing incidence of allergic diseases in modern societies, and the high level of anxiety that these conditions generate in families.

Quality Improvement 2: Understanding variation in practice and how to use data for improvement
Quality Improvement (QI) is not only a crucial part of our professional role as a paediatrician but also required for consultant interviews and Annual Review of Competence Progressions (ARCPs).
As this is the second of our quality improvement masterclasses, we turn our attention to measuring the variation in our systems and processes. This highly interactive session is open to trainees of all levels, and consultants.
We work through the importance of defining a measure, have a chance to create your own run chart and improve your performance in just two hours! If you want to understand how your system is perfectly designed to deliver variations in your patient’s experience please join us (attendance at the first masterclass not essential). You’ll also get to hear from our quality improvement change champions as they continue their own QI learning journey.
To get the most from this session please spend ten minutes BEFORE you come, to think about one aspect of patient care. Make a note of the best and the worst experience for your patients on one day in the last week and bring it with you.
