Description
Although paediatric trauma is less common than adult trauma, reflections from TARN and the paediatric TARNLET demonstrates that significant numbers of severely injured children are seen in Trauma Units rather than Major Trauma Centres. Clinicians in the Trauma Unit are faced with additional challenges in managing severely injured children: due to differences in their anatomy, children present with different injury patterns to adults, compounded by differing physiological responses, making assessment of haemorrhage more challenging. In addition, the child’s developing body is more sensitive to ionising radiation, so careful consideration needs to be given to radiological investigation. This study day aims to support ED clinicians in their management of Paediatric Major Trauma in the Trauma Unit environment.
