Description
Working with patients, carers and the public as partners is often referred to as PPI – patient and public involvement. The General Medical Council, National Midwifery Council, Health Care Professionals Council, Health Education England, NHS England and all the Royal Medical Colleges, encourage the involvement of patients and the public in the development, design and delivery of healthcare services, including the education and training of doctors and other Healthcare professionals.
However, while there is much activity in PPI across many organisations, forging a meaningful partnership remains a significant challenge.
This meeting will provide insight in to the world of PPI through the lens of the patient and various organisations.
A range of diverse national and international speakers will set the context for this discussion and help to shape our thinking about how best to introduce, implement and evaluate PPI in medical education.
Sir Robert Francis, will give the keynote address and present his thoughts on PPI using the Charlie Gard case.
The themed workshops will explore PPI in detail and provide opportunities for shared learning, and highlight what matters to patients, medical students and doctors when they learn from the experience of each other. A supportive learning environment is key to success and helps to ensure that PPI activities become an integral part of the education of students and doctors.
